Survey: 58% of Freelancers Do Not Make Enough Money, Says CreditDonkey.com Survey

Poll of 400-plus freelancers reveals only 42% making enough money to sustain the type of life they want to live.

More than half of freelancers in a survey by CreditDonkey.com, a small business credit card comparison and personal finance website, said they do not make enough money to sustain the type of lifestyle they want.

Yet the vast majority, some 85%, are able to make enough to pay at least the minimum on all their bills. Half are able to afford health insurance. Only 16% have been unable to pay their taxes.

Other Findings:

•     36% of respondents said they work only 10 to 20 hours a week.
•     52% reported their emotional well-being has improved since they became an independent contractor.
•     49% plan to continue being an independent contractor indefinitely.

From November 5 to November 27, 2012, CreditDonkey.com surveyed 424 independent contractors in the U.S., age 18 and over, using multiple-choice questions and short-answer questionnaires.
