JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Roads are beginning to ice in Mississippi's northwest corner, and some power has gone out. The Mississippi Department of Transportation says it's fighting icy roads and bridges on U.S. 78 in Marshall County and U.S. 72 in Benton County. Entergy Mississippi reports more than 2,000 customers without power in DeSoto, Tunica, Coahoma and Tallahatchie counties.
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Two teenagers have been arrested in a fatal shooting that happened near a high school in Jackson. Police say a 15-year-old girl Destinee Ford died after someone opened fire on a group of students just after classes were dismissed yesterday at Wingfield High School.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Former Southern Mississippi basketball coach M.K. Turk died this morning. He was 71. Turk led the Golden Eagles for 20 seasons from 1976 to 1996 and finished with a school-record 301 victories, two NCAA tournament appearances and six NIT appearances.
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Democrat Jeramey Anderson of Moss Point has been sworn in as the youngest member of the Mississippi Legislature. Several relatives were at the Capitol today to watch Anderson take his oath as a state representative. The ceremony took place on his 22nd birthday.
