Supervisors want easier access to data

Associated Press - March 10, 2010 5:24 AM ET

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - Jackson County is moving the county's link to a national sex-offender database to the front of the county Web site for easier public access.

Supervisors say they want to encourage people living in the county to use it.

Supervisor John McKay asked for the change when he had trouble finding the link.

Currently, users have to go through other tabs to access it, he said, and it can be difficult to find.

The sheriff's office linked to the database two years ago.

Citizens may search by address for offenders living near their residences. The site lists registered sex offenders in order of distance, and it includes names, addresses, descriptions and photos of all offenders.
