LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Some of the snow that melted in Arkansas on Tuesday may still be around on Wednesday morning, in the form of black ice.
Officials are cautioning motorists to be wary of road conditions that are expected to worsen as soon as the sun goes down. Any standing water should freeze in the evening as temperatures dip into the teens and 20s.
Also, roads that appear clear on Tuesday still can have slick spots, especially in shady areas such as beneath trees and at underpasses. Drivers who follow too closely or too fast are at particular risk of an accident.
Arkansas highway department spokesman Randy Ort says the best way to stay safe is to stay home. But those venturing out need to keep in mind that this bout of weather isn't over.
