SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A fire Thanksgiving night has put a family of 4 on the street with only the clothes on their back.
The Shreveport Fire Department says it happened just after 8 p.m. Thursday. When firefighters arrived, they found the front of the home totally engulfed by heavy smoke and flames. Officials say the fire was controlled and extinguished within 10 minutes.
No one was home at the time of the fire.
Though an exact cause remains under investigation, fire investigators say the blaze started in the living room.
Tina Grace, who lived there with her three children, told investigators that the electricity had been disconnected for several days and that a portable generator was being used to power space heaters and a television, while candles were used for lighting.
