McCOMB, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi Blues Trail marker will be dedicated Friday on Summit Street in McComb.
Musician and McComb native Little Freddie King will attend the dedication, and local bluesmen Wakefield "Big Moody" Coney and Nelsen Adelard will perform.
The McComb Enterprise-Journal reports that Summit Street's nightlife once flourished with clubs such as the Elk's Lodge, Brock's McCombo No. 2, the Harlem Nightingale, the Three Sixes, the Desoto Hotel and others.
As a primary stop on the rhythm & blues "Chitlin Circuit" between Jackson and New Orleans, McComb drew national talent such as Roy Brown, Ivory Joe Hunter, Solomon Burke, Marvin Gaye and Little Milton.
The Blues Trail marker dedication will be the second for Pike County. The first was held in Nov. 2007 in honor of native son and rock 'n' roll pioneer Bo Diddley.
