Mississippi governor: No special session this week

Associated Press - October 28, 2009 2:24 PM ET

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour says there will not be a special legislative session this week, but an economic development project is still in the works.

Barbour had said last week that he expected to call lawmakers to the Capitol on Oct. 29 or 30 to provide incentives for a company to build "very sophisticated, advanced manufacturing" operation in the Delta.

Lawmakers say they expect it to be a pipe maker, although Barbour has not publicly named the company. He says the project would create up to 500 jobs in five years.

Barbour said Wednesday that the company needs more time to prepare for the project. He said the delay in the special session is because of a "technical issue."
