Lincoln expresses reluctance on health care bill

Associated Press - October 27, 2009 10:54 AM ET

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln says she's reluctant to support health care legislation that would include a government-funded insurance option.

Lincoln on Tuesday didn't say whether she'd vote in favor of health care legislation announced by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid that would give Americans the option of purchasing government-run insurance coverage. Reid said individual states would have the choice of opting out of the public-option program.

Lincoln has said she is against a government-run insurance option. Tuesday, she said she would prefer an insurance option offered by a nonprofit group.

"If it's government run or government funded, I'm going to have some tremendous troubles with being able to support moving forward on something like that," Lincoln said in a video conference with members of the Arkansas Farm Bureau.
