GREENBRIER, Ark. (AP) - Five small earthquakes were recorded during the weekend and Monday in the Greenbrier area, which also had a series of small quakes less than two weeks ago.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the strongest of the recent quakes was of magnitude 2.9. Earthquakes with magnitudes between 2.5 and 3.0 are the smallest likely to be felt by area residents. The recent quakes were all centered within 3 miles of Greenbrier.
After four small quakes were recorded over a 2-day stretch Oct. 15-16, the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management planned to deploy two seismic stations with the hope of finding the source.
The region includes areas where natural gas companies have been drilling in the Fayetteville Shale formation, though it could not be determined Monday if there was any connection.
