Lawyers want delay for anchor's accused attacker

Associated Press - October 22, 2009 11:04 AM ET

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The man accused in separate cases of killing a TV anchorwoman and raping a Marianna woman has asked for delays in trials currently set for the next two weeks.

Curtis Lavelle Vance of Marianna is due in court Monday to face a rape charge in his hometown. On Nov. 2, he is set for trial in Little Rock on capital murder and other charges in last year's beating death of KATV personality Anne Pressly.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Defense lawyers are seeking to withhold part of Vance's statements to Little Rock police and want to explore whether Vance may be mentally retarded. They also say the Marianna case should be put on hold until the Little Rock trial is over.
