BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - A former Biloxi school teacher will spend a year in jail for the 2008 statutory rape of a 15-year-old student.
Biloxi Circuit Court Judge Roger Clark on Thursday suspended six years of a 7-year sentence for Rebecca Dawn Bogard.
Bogard, who is 29, taught science at the Biloxi School District's alternative school. She was arrested in January 2008. The sexual relationship did not occur on the campus and Bogard was not the boy's teacher
Assistant District Attorney Mark Ward said, in a story on the case in The Sun Herald newspaper, that the judge also ordered Bogard to give up her teaching certificate and to register as a convicted sex offender.
