Louisiana Film Museum to open next month

Associated Press - August 17, 2009 5:34 AM ET

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - More than 400 major motion pictures, documentaries and television series have been produced using Louisiana as the backdrop. A movie buff from New Orleans with a large collection of film memorabilia - including posters and photographs - is putting his collection on display.

The so-called Louisiana Film Museum opens Sept. 1 and will occupy a section of the Southern Food and Beverage Museum at the Riverwalk in New Orleans. There will be a timeline of the hundreds of movies made in Louisiana, and eventually, props and costumes on loan from private collections.

Among the movies filmed in Louisiana are the 1989 romantic drama "Steel Magnolias" and last year's "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.
