NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The biggest convention since Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans will be in town through Sunday.
Unlike the typical convention which packs the city's fine restaurants, Bourbon Street's night clubs, and various tourist sites and tourist traps, this group will be dining on Subway Sandwiches, pizza, and other teen favorites, and mostly confining their night life to the Louisiana Superdome.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will bring more than 37,000 people - more than 26,500 of them teenagers - to it's 2009 Youth Gathering. The convention's theme is "Jesus, Justice and Jazz" and will be held at the Superdome and the Morial Convention Center beginning Wednesday, but will fan out across many of the city's still storm-wrecked areas.
Tourist officials say most of the area's 34,000 hotel rooms are full.
