Jindal: No comment on appointee asked to resign

Associated Press - July 2, 2009 10:44 PM ET

WEST MONROE, La. (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal isn't saying much about why he's asked for the resignation of 1 of his appointees to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Tammie McDaniel says she was asked by Jindal's office on Wednesday to resign her at-large position after questioning budget expenditures. McDaniel says she hasn't spoken directly with Jindal regarding the request but hopes to do so soon.

At a news conference following a bill-signing ceremony Thursday, Jindal refused to discuss the reason for his request, saying he doesn't comment on private conversations. However, he says appointed members to any commission or board are expected to support the administration's reform agenda and, if they don't, "they can certainly expect to hear from us."
