SMITHVILLE, Okla. (AP) - A 43-year-old motorcycle rider from Magnolia, Ark., has died after a crash on U.S. Highway 259 in McCurtain County in far southeastern Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Scott E. Pennington died in the accident that occurred about 4.5 miles south of Smithville at noon on Saturday.
Troopers say Pennington's passenger, 44-year-old Lisa D. Pennington of Magnolia, told them that Scott Pennington began to veer off the road for an unknown reason and that the motorcycle hit a guard rail.
Both people on the motorcycle were ejected. Scott Pennington was taken to a hospital in Idabel, where he died. Lisa Pennington was taken to the same hospital, where she was treated and released.
